Overcoming the stigma of mental illness is the first step in creating a mentally healthy workplace, but recent evidence shows that there’s a long way to go, especially in the workplace.
A survey by Business in the Community in October 2018 revealed that "only 16% of UK employees felt able to disclose a mental health issue to their manager."
Minds@Work Co-Founder Geoff McDonald was the Global VP of HR for Unilever when he was diagnosed with anxiety-fueled depression in 2008.
“My ability to talk about my illness saved my life. Why? Because everybody I spoke to responded with an overwhelming sense of love. In dark moments, knowing that I was loved was the only thing that kept me going.”
‘This is My Story’ was an event designed to inspire leaders everywhere to go out and tell their story so that their own colleagues feel safe to raise their hand and ask for help when they are struggling.
