John Flint, Group Chief Executive, HSBC
We were honored to welcome John Flint to our stage. As chief executive of one of the world’s biggest banks, HSBC, John is one of the most influential people in the finance industry.
John has spent his whole career at HSBC, beginning more than 30 years ago in Asia, where he helped to establish and expand the HSBC Global Markets business. Since then he has held various roles across the Group, with postings in Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Bahrain, the United States and the United Kingdom.
John wants to create the “healthiest human system in financial services” at HSBC, so speaking openly about mental health is part of this agenda. Many people shy away from sharing their experiences of mental illness with managers, but John believes the experience can make you a better and more valuable employee.
John says, "People who have recovered from a mental illness are an asset to your company - they have resourcefulness, resilience, natural empathy and insights into people dynamics that most of us don't have.”
John Flint is a good friend to Minds@Work and an advocate for better mental health in the workplace.
